In memorium, christophe deloire

Last weekend, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) shared the tragic news that Christophe Deloire, secretary-general of Reporters Without Borders International and director-general of Reporters Without Borders, passed away after a battle with cancer.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Christophe Deloire. He was a true fighter for press freedom and we admired his vision on journalism and his energy to fight for it. His leadership guided RSF and FPU from collaboration to true partnership.

RSF has been a strategic partner of Free Press Unlimited since July 2023. The strategic alliance aims to promote quality journalism and protect press freedom. Together, we share the vision that reliable information should be available to all and recognise its crucial role in maintaining democracy, civil unity, peace, development and human rights. Christophe was at the helm of RSF from 2012 to 2024. His work has shown renewed growth and impact worldwide.

Ruth Kronenburg, Executive Director of Free Press Unlimited, "Christophe was one of a kind. He was a visionary and a true champion for press freedom. But more than that he was also a good friend. In the last couple of years I had the privilege to work more closely with him, to discuss the challenges of our time, think of answers and solutions to address these challenges, both in our own way. Christophe's greatest gift was thinking big and coming up with ideas to rescue independent journalism, and in doing so, the world. But what I will miss most is his sense of humour, we had some good laughs together. I treasure these moments and will miss him sorely. My heartfelt condolences to his wife, son and colleagues."

Free Press Unlimited will honour his legacy and always carry on his vision of press freedom.
