As part of its commitment to strengthening independent media, Free Press Unlimited is seeking a freelance consultant to provide expertise in developing audience engagement strategies for media outlets in Syria.
 

Objective of the assignment

Free Press Unlimited is supporting media organisations in Syria to enhance their audience engagement strategies, ensuring that media outlets can better interact with and serve their communities. The expert will work closely with partner organizations to develop, test, and refine effective engagement strategies that align with ethical journalism principles. The Audience Engagement Analyst will be responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and optimizing engagement strategies across various digital platforms to maximize audience interaction and enhance the overall brand experience. This role demands a deep understanding of audience behavior, content performance, and data analysis to improve engagement, and satisfaction.
 

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments of current audience engagement practices among partner media outlets by analyzing website traffic, social media interactions, and email performance using tools like Google Analytics and CRM systems.
• Provide expert consultation on best practices, innovative strategies, and data-driven insights to optimize engagement based on audience behavior trends.
• Develop tailored audience engagement strategies in collaboration with media partners, leveraging multi-channel approaches, audience segmentation, and content personalisation.
• Deliver training and mentoring sessions on audience engagement techniques, including AI-driven insights, predictive analytics, sentiment analysis, and A/B testing.
• Provide recommendations for long-term sustainability by implementing audience data strategies such as cross-platform migration, zero-party data collection, and proactive feedback integration.
• Support newsroom and editorial teams with audience impact assessments, demographic research, and content strategy enhancements to improve retention and engagement.
   

Requirements

• Fluency in Arabic (reading and speaking) and English.
• A relevant degree (media, communications, journalism, or a related field).
• 5+ years of experience in audience engagement, media development, or digital strategy.
• Strong expertise in social media strategies, community engagement, and interactive content development.
• Experience in coaching and advising media organizations on audience growth and engagement.
• A deep understanding of independent media challenges in Syria.
• Ability to provide practical, data-driven recommendations for improving audience interaction.
• Experience in training, mentoring, or facilitating workshops in an adaptable manner (online and offline).
