Journalism Advisors and Trainers Collapse
Dabanga – Radio TV Online is an independent Sudanese news and information broadcaster and publisher. Founded in 2008 during the Darfur crisis, Dabanga operates as an exiled media house serving all regions of Sudan. With a unique ability to connect with marginalised and hard-to-reach communities, Dabanga delivers trusted news through shortwave radio, satellite television, and online platforms. Amid Sudan's ongoing crisis, Dabanga is committed to educating, informing, and holding power to account.
We are seeking Journalism Advisors and Trainers to work with our news and production team to support the development of Dabanga’s journalism through training and editorial review processes.
Scope of Work
Support Dabanga’s editorial team in reviewing, planning, and implementing measures to enhance Dabanga’s news gathering and production systems across its broadcast and online platforms. The scope includes, but is not limited to:
Mentoring, Training, and Implementation:
To ensure that Dabanga news and programme content aligns with it editorial guidelines and style guide.
Content is produced to maximise audience growth and retention, and aligns with target audience aquistion policy.
Professional developmnent of staff across writing; editorial decision making; radio, website and social media production; and broadcast technical operations.
Professional and leadership developmnent for senior editors and to develop managemnet systems and processes.
Content Review:
Bi-annually, conduct a content review of broadcast and online news output over a 7-day period; present reports and reccomendations to and for the editorial team, senior leadership team, and donors; support editorial team in implementing reccomendations and goals from each content review.
Deliverables:
Regular progress updates and a final report with recommendations for sustaining improvements.
Required qualifications
Language Proficiency: Arabic (written reports may be in Arabic or English) or experience of working with teams who do not share a first language.
Professional Experience: Minimum of five years in a senior or leadership editorial role in a national or international news organisation, with expertise in multimedia operations.
Mentoring Expertise: Proven track record in training and mentoring, particularly in culturally sensitive environments.
Experience of working in Sudan or Neighbouring Countries: Either as a senior journalist/editor or in a training capacity.
Organisational Skills: Demonstrated ability to work remotely, with strong planning and adaptability to overcome challenges.
